Fiber Cement Siding Installation (James Hardie) in Carteret, NJ
A heavy-duty, fire-resistant siding option built to hold its shape and its finish for decades, installed to exact manufacturer specifications.
What Goes Into a Fiber Cement Installation
Fiber cement has earned a strong reputation among Carteret, NJ homeowners who want a heavy-duty material without wood's constant upkeep. It stands up better to fire, pests, and rot than most competing products, and it keeps a painted finish for far longer than wood typically does. Made from a blend of cement, sand, and cellulose fibers, fiber cement — including trusted brands like James Hardie — is dense, holds its shape well, and resists the warping that comes with seasonal heat and humidity shifts.
Because the boards are considerably heavier than most siding materials, getting the installation right calls for a different approach: solid fastening into studs or sheathing, and cutting with blades and dust control suited to a dense product. We follow the manufacturer's nailing patterns and clearance requirements at every butt joint, corner, and opening, and we prime and caulk every cut end before it goes up, since an unsealed edge is where moisture problems tend to start.
Keeping the right clearance between the siding's bottom edge and the ground, decks, or rooflines is another priority, since that gap keeps the material away from standing water and lets it perform as intended. We integrate flashing at windows, doors, and every wall penetration into the weather-resistant barrier before any boards are installed, because fiber cement's long lifespan only holds up if the water management behind it is just as durable.
Fiber cement comes in a wide range of textures and profiles — classic lap siding, board-and-batten, and shingle-style options among them — so it can match nearly any architectural style. Many products arrive pre-primed or with a factory finish that stretches the time between repaints. Harbor Ridge Exteriors has installed fiber cement siding throughout Carteret, NJ for 15 years, and we treat the extra care this material requires as essential, since a properly installed fiber cement exterior can outlast most other siding choices available.

Fiber Cement Siding, Answered
For homeowners who plan to stay put, fiber cement often makes up the difference through lower maintenance costs, stronger fire resistance, and a longer service life than most lower-cost alternatives.
Factory-finished fiber cement usually holds its color and finish for fifteen years or longer before it needs repainting, well beyond what most site-painted wood siding can manage.
It's substantially heavier than vinyl, which is a big reason it holds up better against impacts and high wind, though that added weight means the installation needs more structural attention and the right tools.
